Electing Vincent S. Cameron for President of ILA Local 1408 on September 18, 2023 in the re-run election
Leadership You can believe in - As an On-the-job(OTJ) veteran, I know where we have been and as a global leader I know where the union is going. Who better to take you there than someone connected to both worlds RIGHT NOW! I am the person with the resume, the history, the know how and the preparation from DAY 1 OTJ to make that “Next Level Vision" a reality!
Let me be clear, It wasn’t that I could, and others couldn't, it is the fact that I did and others didn’t. The bible says that, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he”. I came in the seat of President with the notion that we could do better and that there was technology and other structure to take us to better. Charles Spencer used to say back in the day, that the ILA was unique. I didn’t fully accept that notion. I believed that they were comfortable with the way things were and if it wasn’t broke, don’t fix it. I get that it wasn’t broke, but I saw that the way we approached things in that window of time as behind the times. When I got the opportunity to become president. I wasn’t going to waste the opportunity! I had to show this ILA Family that we could do it better! We did better, I personally built the first website for the local and loaded the work on it every day. I sat down with a programmer and walked through what we do and how we dispatched and laid the foundation for a electronic dispatch system for 1408…

The VCam ILA Story: The journey from ship hold to President
We are at the inflection point for the future of 1408. The St. John River dredging is now complete and the new cranes have arrived at the port and are being assembled, the Port is getting millions in port improvements all while 1408 sits idle and training is moving along at a slower-than-normal clip, The infrastructure of 1408 has to get a retrofit now! for the 2023 future we look to using venmo, zelle, paypal, cash app and other software to pay your out of pocket dues, to have a larger training budget approved for Jacksonville to support the need for a larger contingent of trained and ready longshoremen, we look to reinstate the 401k or something similar that has application to all workers not just the container few, we look to build a new union hall that we can take pride in that doesn’t have vines growing all over it. We look to enhanced wages but more important enhanced benefits have to also be baked into the conversation. This is some of the challenges for the road ahead for Local 1408. We can't continue to hire short and not suffer consequences. If we don't provide the "Qualified Labor", someone will! What path do you plan to take? New union hall, night replacement plan all laid out, New member orientation, 5k event, 90th celebration, and additional disability insurance are just a few of our challenges and they are all achievable in the next 3 years with real Leadership.

Representation Matters! I believe in 2020 when Tote Maritime longshore work came up for bid an opportunity presented itself as Portus went thru a reorganization. The reorganization that was a window that advantaged us. I truly believe that I could have made headway to secure that work. They started an entire stevedoring concern as a result;
Representation Matters! The CSX Account that the 1408 mechanics were working. I believe we would still have that account;
Representation Matters!. The military initial discussions, I would not have pulled a “no show!” like President Spencer. I would have been there to handle your affairs;
Representation Matters! At the recent International Convention where I was elected to 4 more years as an International Vice-President, I submitted 6 resolutions for change in the ILA and 3 constitutional amendments. Warren Smith Submitted nothing. SMH
Representation Matters! I takes a visionary that can walk and chew gum to get more than one project done at the same time. Especially at a time like this...

This race isn't about the Spencers, they had their chance and failed miserably. They have went backwards in the last 3 years. They ended your 401k, they sold your Pension & Welfare office without even the slightest conversation, they brought in fraudulent vendor to charge your insurance and violated HIPPA and your trust in the act. They ignored your grievances and complaints, They signed documents that allows the stevedore to KNOCK YOU OFF!, They fail to represent at contract meetings and meetings with other Presidents, They put family on every payroll possible and drained the coffers of the Local while not even caring to cut the grassland trim the hedges or maintain your union hall and its offices and lastly while they ran around in shirts claiming "All Lives matter!", they spent anearly 100k of your money trying to make me ineligible as a candidate for President on Fake information. We have wasted enough time and energy on them. They clearly knew that they weren't bringing anything of value to the table for ILA 1408. This December 12th 2022 election is all about foraging ahead at a critical time and who has consistently done that? VCam

Stay Woke! Once you become a part of this family, there is no seperation; with that in mind, I am always representing the ILA whether I'm President or not and I take that charge with the upmost seriousness. In the 33 years I have been affiliated with the Local I have been honored to represent this Local internally and in the greater community in a number of capacities with the office of International Vice-President & Southeastern Dock & Marine Council President topping the list of additional accomplishments that directly benefit the Local in a major way. I am in the room and it benefits the Local greatly to bring your issues to the conversation that would not otherwise arrive...
